The Illinois Small Business Development Center located at Southern Illinois University is funded through a collaborative arrangement between U.S. Small Business Administration, Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and Southern Illinois University. The Center provides entrepreneurs in the area with support for creating or expanding their businesses through services such as free workshops on business planning individual counseling sessions with expert Business Advisors, and access to funding opportunities.
State leaders in Indiana are encouraging employers to offer higher compensation and benefits as means of keeping childcare workers employed nationwide which is a problem due to a shortage of employment. The decision comes after the closing of a child care center in Bronzeville which struggled to retain staff.
Illinois Department of Labor also launched an online tool designed to inform small-scale businesses about lawful employment practices. Employers can search using keywords or browse categories on this site, and connect to appropriate state agencies and sources.
Illinois Business Development Authority (IBDA) is working to make people aware of Illinois tax incentives to business expansion. They hosted an online webinar on the subject. The webinar was recorded and will appear on the website.
