MarchWhy We Our Love For Robot Vac (And You Should Also!)
Top Rated Robot Vacuums
A robot vacuum will keep floors clean enough to reduce the frequency at which you'll need to manually vacuum. Choose one that has excellent navigation, is able to clean stairs and corners and also has a large dust bin that has to be emptied only once in a while.
There are models that mop and charge themselves which can be essential for those who have pets or kids. Many of the top performers in our tests also have decent obstacle avoidance.
1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The i3+ EVO is similar to its sibling the i3 EVO. They differ only in the fact that the i3+ comes with self-emptying capabilities. This makes the i3+ a great option for those looking for an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience but don't mind taking the time to empty their budget robot vacuum's trash bin as it gets full.
Both robots are adept at picking up surface debris on carpets and hard floors and they're excellent in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a manner that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or any other top-rated robots that we tested. It may be stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as hardwood and rug.
iRobot suggests that you clear areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including putting away any toys or clutter it may encounter. Also, keep the dustbin and filters clear to avoid becoming clogged. If the i3+'s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and automatically emptys the dirt into the docking station’s external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and takes about three hours to recharge.
2. Roomba from iRobot
The iRobot i7+ is the top model in iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. the most important feature of all -- it comes with a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba I7+ can better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot through the app or by voice.
The i7+ is more efficient and more maneuverable in our tests than the eufy RoboVac G30. It also cleaned large pet hair pieces from any surface, including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, is its Self Vacuum-emptying dustbin which eliminates a major source of maintenance and lowers recurring costs.
We were also impressed by the i7+'s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We utilized these services to instruct the robot to begin or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward through the iRobot Home app. Once connected, we were able to give the i7+ voice commands like "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
This tiny Dyson model is an athletic car in a world of vacuums with cords that feel like minivans and buses. It's powerful enough to replace a stand-up vacuum in the majority of homes, but also small enough to fit on the bookcase or coffee table.
The V10 is powered by a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy, which produces power that is not fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system traps allergens and releases cleaner air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles that penetrate deep into carpets and collect large dust or crumbs. It comes with three suction modes that can be adapted to the task. It swiftly switches from handheld vacuum to floor vacuum and back again.
This model has a dock which charges the Dyson to 100% in 3.5 hours. It also gives the ability to connect two attachments and a wand. This is a significant improvement over earlier Dysons which require a long charge and are difficult to store.
The main issue with the V10 is its short running time. Its claims on the market that it can last up to 60 minutes of running time are not true as CR's tests have shown. This is a typical not an extraordinary time for the battery-powered cordless vacuum. This is enough time to sweep the average-sized home however, it's not enough time to reach every area. (A second pass generally works). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models, and its vacuuming ability is noticeably superior on low-pile floor carpet.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
The 694 is a basic robotic vacuum that's a great option for those who don't have lots of money to spend on the latest model of robot. It was able to remove all kinds of debris and sizes in our tests, and frequently went over the same area multiple times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front design allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.
Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the ability to map that is found in more advanced models, like our top picks, the i3+EVO and j7+ Series. Because of this, it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and low furniture, and it often is power-depleted before making it back to its home base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in many ways, as it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is fitted with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower recurring costs, has more advanced automation capabilities and is better at moving itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.
The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery life than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries strips and can be controlled by the voice assistant on your smartphone. It also feels more sturdy, has a more powerful motor, and performs notably better on bare floors and low-pile carpet, while providing a wider array of automation options.
5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a household name in the field of home electronics. It's not a surprise that they are also among the top robot vacuum cleaner manufacturers of robot vacuums and mop. Their Jet Bot AI+ is packed with cutting-edge onboard tech for navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app provides a range of options to customize your robotic cleaner. This includes mopping levels, virtual barriers and behavior customizations, docking frequency settings and many more. The app is easy to use and understand, just like other Samsung devices.
In our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and it cleaned up 86% of dog hair (on carpet). However, it wasn't particularly well at avoiding higher-up objects like cords or socks which was a disappointment. It's also more expensive than the other models we've tested, and this could be a deal breaker for some buyers.
The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that you can access via the app. You can also set up a live streaming from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you monitor your pets or children when you're away from home. The filter and the dust bin are washable for quick, painless cleanup. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with an automatic clean station which helps keep the bin clean and improves suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Black and Decker robots have been developed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. They feature an extra-wide cleaning path as well as a large dustbin that holds twice as much debris than competitors to keep the area free of debris for the longest period of time. Plus, they include two side sweepers that clean up around edges and in corners. The POWERSERIES model includes AutoSense, which automatically adjusts the power level depending on whether it's picking up dirt that is on the surface or embedded. The remote vacuum cleaner also comes with an app that allows you to view the virtual map, manage functions, and create schedules. Additionally, you can track the battery's status and return it to its dock for charging by pressing one button. The app allows you to personalize the LED lights on the top of the vacuum using different colors, so you can easily tell which areas it's focused on or where it's gotten stuck.
The app makes it possible to steer the robot manually when needed. My living room rug for instance is darkly colored that can trip up some other robots. However, the HRV 425BL continued to move across the border, but it didn't register it as a cliff. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving advantage.
