The latter see less value from upgrading due to the necessity to roll to get a perfect version.

Recycle Points

The upgrader for items allows players to upgrade their gear to a higher level by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied to any type of armor or weapon. The item used to upgrade the item will be consumed and cannot be used again. Upgrades can be applied to enchantments.

You can upgrade your gear anytime by visiting the upgrader in any major city. It is recommended to visit the upgrader every few weeks to keep your equipment up to date.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new equipment. For instance, upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points purchasing a similar piece from another player will cost 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are items that can be used to purchase tools, armor, weapon and accessory upgrades. They can be purchased through NPCs who sell upgrades to item owners in a variety of currencies. They can also find them in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon or tool with the help of button, which will show an image of the item when it is upgraded when the player has enough materials.

Upgrade costs differ based on the item upgrader mod slot, and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers or bracers. Each upgrade cost 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Some upgrades give a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain level and is degraded, it can be sold and sold back to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currency types.

Many locations offer item upgraders which include the main island and some outposts. The NPCs provide both an upgrade discount as well as a chance to get a brand new upgrade recipe. The discount on upgrades increases as more items are upgraded. It can also be increased by having players complete certain achievements or quests.

In contrast to Cromwell in Baldur's Gate II there is no item upgrader available at the beginning of Icewind Dale. The NPCs who are able to facilitate upgrades are only accessible through a variety of methods. This is both a benefit as well as an issue.

In Season 3, many new features were added to the upgrade system. After an upgrade has been completed to a certain level of item for an armor slot, upgrading other items to the same level, will cost less. This is true even if the items come from an entirely different set of gear.

The discount applies to all accounts. The amount of Harbinger Crests required to upgrade is cut also, but is only available when certain milestones are reached.

Crests

Players have a number of options for upgrading their gear in WoW. Flightstones are a currency that is available to all players for upgrading. Crests are more specialized and are used for specific item upgrading level upgrades. Crests are a key element of the Dragonflight gear progression system introduced in 10.1 and are available in four ranks.

First, you should know that Crests are only available to equipment that is that is of a particular rank. Each rank has an upgrade path that is different. The simplest and easiest upgrade costs 15 crests. The most complicated upgrade requires up to 20 crests, contingent on the type of gear being upgraded.

Players can obtain crests by working through content that is of the appropriate level, whether that involves walking around and performing outdoor activities to get lower-tier gear, dungeons or raids of all difficulties for higher-tier items, or Mythic+ heroic raid bosses and dungeons for endgame gear. The crests can later be exchanged at an item upgrader NPC like Cuzolth in Dornogal, or Vaskarn in Valdrakken to get the appropriate upgrade routes and steps.

The new currency system isn't complicated to use, but it will bring some changes to the upgrade process. For example, once a piece of equipment reaches the highest upgrade level of any rank (Explorer, Adventurer, Veteran, Champion, Hero, or Mythic) it won't need Flightstones to be upgraded. This change allows players to upgrade their gear to the highest possible ilvl on all of their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

Another important change is that crests only have one usage therefore it's essential to use them wisely. For instance it's a good idea to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the Best item upgrade equipment available and then keep Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you plan to create. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character, that will be able to benefit from the discount for all accounts when all slots are full of high-quality equipment.
