Players can recycle six items at one time to gauge each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling an item scales with its rarity and level.

Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be done through various methods, including using upgrade components and upgrading an item's mark level or rarity. Additionally, many items can be reforged, which can boost their stats even more.

Upgradeable items are available in the game, both around the world and as rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The primary method to upgrade equipment is through the use of upgrade components which are the items that can be inserted into equipment. Most equipment has slots for upgrading, and many require a certain amount of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer general bonuses.

There are many types of upgrade components available in the game, including universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments, can be put in any equipment type and provide smaller bonuses than those that are equipment-type specific. Glyphs are only available on gathering tools. They offer a range of bonuses, from increasing the speed of an item's gathering to providing extra crafting material.

To upgrade an item, select it in your inventory, then open the Upgrade window. The window will show an overview on the right side of the screen showing what the expected stats will be after the upgrade, as well as any required components or materials. The Upgrade button at the bottom will read Blocked if you don't have enough of either.

The upper-right corner displays the number of upgrade components required for the specific item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of the upgrade and its rarity, but it can be reduced through a variety of methods, such as buying upgrades at a merchant or trading them to other players.

Nearly all weapons can be upgraded using an upgrade to a prefix for example, an insignia or a rune, and a lot of them can be upgraded with suffix upgrades. These upgrades change the name of the item, adding an adjective, for example 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor. There are some exceptions, however. the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, which cannot be upgraded with any kinds of mods at all.

Glyphs are an effective tool to communicate visual information. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and stimulate interest in the brain. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language, making them more effective in transmitting a linguistic barrier-crossing message. Glyphs can also trigger a feeling of familiarity in the brain, which increases retention of the message.

Each glyph comes with a range of values it can enhance a stat according to the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This is the highest value that a glyph can increase a stat's value by, not the amount that it actually improves the stat by. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the product you are creating it for.

Most upgrade components slotted into items cannot be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, except for legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you do not want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create an entirely new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.

You can remove the glyph using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item will be destroyed that it was installed in, but you can recover the upgraded item by using the glyph and its shards, so this should not be considered a loss.

A glyph added to an item can cause it to become unstable and the shards of the glyph will disappear from your inventory once you dismantle the item. You can also add a glyph on your equipment to provide an extra benefit. Deferred Damage, for example can be used to store damage and then be dealt out slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This is beneficial for those who take many hits from enemies but don't want to be overwhelmed.

Reroll tokens

Reroll tokens can be used to change the affixes of equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from various sources, including mystery boxes and rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Every reroll grants the player a random affix that is usually better than what they had prior to. Reroll tokens can also be used to improve weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.

Rerolled items are not listed on the menu for item upgrades, but they can be upgraded. These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button which alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to recycle. The gauge of level is increased by recycling an item upgrader kit. This amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, which means higher-level items are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.

In addition to tokens for rerolls players can also make use of Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to roll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls roll the percentage chance of a particular weapon trait. If it rolls higher, the weapon will be upgraded. If it is lower, it remains the same. Weapons can be upgraded up to 3 times.

Rerolling is an excellent option to upgrade an item. However, players should be aware that the total ilvl will be decreased by the number of rerolls it took to get it to the final ilvl. This reduction effect is most effective for Diadems and rings, which have no other options for raising ilvls.

Some players have complained that the reroll system is expensive. It would be fairer to allow people to pay for it using money or food items, which allows players to make adjustments to their builds without having to invest excessive amounts of time. However, paid rerolls are not something the developers are planning to implement at this time in the game's development. They are planning to add an ingredient that allows players to alter their race in the future.

Leveling

There are several ways to upgrade an item. The most effective method to level up an upgrade to an item upgrade is by increasing the amount of upgrade. This boosts the value of an upgrade for a stat. The second option is to increase the effect of an upgrade, which increases damage or healing for a stat. The base item can be upgraded to a more advanced upgrade type. The upgraded item will keep its iLevel, but be upgraded to reflect the effects of the upgraded item.

It is important to keep in mind that upgrades are random. Most of the time, a better roll will result from glyphs, however there are also opportunities for more or unique rolls. In addition, the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type, so if you upgrade a rare or unique item to a unique type, it will have a chance to get an iLevel that is higher.

Upgrading items can be costly especially when you're upgrading an item upgrading of equipment from the standard to the legendary track. The cost will depend on the item's iLevel base and the amount of upgrade levels it has. Additionally, certain upgrade tracks require crests in order to achieve the next upgrade level.

If you're lucky the upgraded item will be at the highest level of its upgrade track and unlock an additional bonus effect. This will result in a significant increase in the value of the item. The bonus effect is different with each upgrade level. In general, the upgrade effect is increased by a factor of +3.

Based on the item's base level and upgrade process, the iLevel for the upgraded item will also change. For instance an item upgraded from being a rare or unique item to an exceptional one will have the chance to gain the Enhanced Defence of the new base item.
